10 Reasons to Use Video As Your Marketing Tool

Over the past few years the use of video for marketing has grown incredibly quickly, rapidly replacing text as the primary medium of choice.

In this article I present 10 reasons why video marketing is so popular and why you need to be considering using it if you are not already.

1. Quickly Get Attention

Videos grab attention and keep it in a way text content cannot. If you think about how we generally interact with people on a day to day basis. It is through speaking to and observing other people and situations so it should be no surprise that we will engage more with video that replicates this exchange. They say that a picture is worth a thousand words, well according to Dr. James McQuivey of Forrester Research (Forrester, January 2009), a minute of video is worth 1.8 million words!

2. Increased Conversions

This is one of the greatest benefits. Studies have shown that sales pages that include video are twice as likely to seal the deal and lead to a sale. This means websites that include video clips usually have higher conversation rates than websites without video.

3. Every Word is Heard

Research has indicated that a large percentage of people who go to a text based web site will not read an article right through to the end. Many will just skim through looking for the information they require. If the presentation is not to their liking then they will quickly leave. With video it is much more difficult to skim and as a result it has been estimated that about 50% of people will watch a video through to the end.

4. Increased Website Traffic

Your videos can include a call-to-action which leads viewers to your website. Load your videos on a site like YouTube and you will see an increase in traffic coming to your site, which will hopefully lead to increased conversions.

5. Know, Like, Trust

You are no longer a faceless person behind a computer, you become a person that they get to know and look forward to doing business with. The more videos you create, the more others become familiar with your face and personality. They start to feel as if they know you and people naturally trust those they know more than they trust strangers. Therefore, consistent video marketing can help you establish a sense of trust in the minds of potential clients.

6. Fast SEO Rankings

Upload your video to YouTube and it is likely to get ranked for your chosen keywords within days, if not hours.

7. Going Viral

If people find your videos resourceful and valuable enough they will share it with their friends. With the availability of fast internet connections and numerous ways to access information, very quickly your video may be accessed by millions of people around the world.

8. Tap Into Social Media

People are more likely to share a video than some text. Given that social media in the form of Facebook, Twitter, Linked-In and Google+ to name just a few have become an integral part of our everyday lives it should be no surprise that videos posted on these forums can quickly become viral.

9. Low Entry Cost

Video used to be for those people with lots of money to spend with expensive video cameras, microphones and video software. This is not the case today. With nearly all laptop computers and smart phones you have the technology built in and within minutes you can record and upload a video to your blog, YouTube or a host of other video sites.

10. Getting Your Message Across

Some people will find it difficult to turn their thoughts and ideas into text. Indeed, other people will struggle to interpret those words into a meaningful message. Therefore the possibilities for misinterpretation of the message you are trying to deliver are very high. Our natural form of communication is to speak so it is much easier to communicate your message via a video. Not only can you communicate naturally in words but you can also enhance your message with your posture and body language, as you would in simple conversation with another person.

Is Video for You?

The advantages of video I think you will agree are difficult to argue with. However, you may be concerned that its not for you, you won't come across well on camera or people don't want to view your videos. These are natural concerns and we all have them. However, you cannot ignore this medium and, after you've done a few videos, it really does get easier. I've only recently started doing videos and the first attempts were a bit difficult, after a while though it becomes much easier and the challenge becomes one of not speaking too much! So, have a go and don't miss out.
